New Haven Bronze Clock Highly Decorated Case Wood Base Unique Glass Topper
Antique New Haven Bronze Clock. Highly Decorated Embossed Case Wood Base. Unique Metal and Glass Topper. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! Very unique and uncommon New Haven Clock here. The clock probably dates to the latter 1800s. The maker’s mark on the movement is on the back of the front plate and can be see from the back, not incised on the back plate as one normally observes. Porcelain clock face is in place. The brass grommets are in place around the wind holes. The face is loose and has a few hairlines in it. Please look closely at the pictures to see the condition we are describing here. The hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Some loss of finish around the wind holes. The brass bezel is securely attached to the case by the hinge. Nice beaded brass edge on the bezel. The flat glass in the bezel is intact, no cracking or blistering. The bezel does not stay shut when closed, needs some attention. The bronze look case and trim hangers are intact, no dings or repairs. Beautiful embossed design on the case of flowers and leafing. Some finish loss to the case and still needs a good cleaning to obtain it’s best look. Very interesting metal and yellow/brown glass topper. Has the look of a church steeple or lantern. Has a hole in the top of the topper, not certain if there was another metal topper point or not. Have researched this clock on a few sites that we look to for unique clocks and cannot find this one out there. If someone knows the model name here and when actually made, we would love to hear from you. The bronze case then sits on an older wood base that is painted with a black enamel. No cracks or missing pieces to the base, but certainly some loss of the paint finish. A nice silver colored high detailed metal emblem on the front of the wood base. No markings on the bottom of the wood base. Has 4 rubber legs in place. The rear metal door is intact and securely attached to the case. Repaired at the hinge at one time. The lock latch is in place as well. The whole rear door assembly can be pulled out of the clock case, so needs to attention for it to be securely in place as it should be. Nice older movement here too. Note the strike gear wheeling. The brass movement looks good. The time and strike springs both feel sound when keyed. The clock strikes once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. This is a gong strike unit. The clock comes with a pendulum and wind key. The clock will run for a little bit, but then stops. Movement does need a good cleaning, not sure if any bushings necessary. The New Haven Clock stands 17″ tall, by 9″ across, by 8 wide. The clock face is 4 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear.
