Chelsea Mantel Clock A Stowell & Co Boston Runs & Strikes Cherry Wood Case
Chelsea Mantel Clock A Stowell & Company Boston. Runs & Strikes Cherry Wood Case Circa 1915. Nice Gong Wire Sound. Running & Striking Condition. A nicely done Chelsea mantel clock that was distributed thru A Stowell & Company. The wood case is just incredible. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep it for yourself. Nice looking clock here done by the Chelsea Clock Company. The Chelsea Clock Company is an American clock manufacturing company founded in 1897. The company continues to build and repair clocks at their corporate headquarters in Chelsea, Massachusetts. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don’t have the overhead that the higher end houses and galleries pass on to their clients. The Chelsea Clock Case is in very nice condition. Of Boston, MA as noted on the face of the clock. Also, has Chelsea noted on the clock face. The brownish red colored case (may be cherry wood) is in very nice condition.. A chip out of the front of the left ledge at top of the clock case. Beautiful arched top above the two ledges fo the clock case. No cracks or splits to the case and all the wood case and trim is there. Some minor rub and wear to the clock case finish from use. The serial number on the Chelsea movement is 103774. That would date the movement to around the 1915 period. Nice silver colored tin face with incised numbers and marks on it. The concave glass over the face is intact, no cracks or blistering. The brass bezel (door) that holds the glass is sound as is the hinge. The clock hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Chelsea name is on the clock face, and also impressed on the back plate of the clock movement. The gold colored most likely brass metal rear door is in place, securely on its’ hinge, and the black fabric is on the inside of it. The clock was in running and striking condition when we acquired. We have just oiled the bushing and pivot points. The clock strikes the hours on the hour, and one strike on the half hour. Beautifully rich wire gong sound. There is no representation that the clock is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order. The brass movement has the Chelsea name on it. The clock stands 10-3/8″ tall, by 7.25″ across, by 6 wide (by glass & rear door). The clock face is 4-5/8 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks. Make sure that this item meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. So again, ask all questions you have, come see in person (Wilmington, DE) or send a friend to see the piece on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. The pictures provided both complement and supplement the listing description, so please look at them very closely as well. With old items, there is no way one can capture all the little imperfections in words, so the two media are meant to be the full description.
