Lorenz Furtwängler Söhne Mantel Clock Bim Bam Strike Runs Strikes Mahogany Case
Antique Lorenz Furtwangler and Sohne. Bim Bam Strike Runs & Strikes. Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! This clock has a beautiful mahogany wood case. All the trim work is there as are the brass cannonball legs. The wood case has some minor finish loss and crazing. The clock was probably made in the late 1800s to mid 1910s by a German clock maker, Lorenz Furtwangler and Sohne. Also notes Clock Factory on the back of the movement and the case. The rear wood door is securely attached to the case by two brass hinges. The knob is even still with it. The fabric on the side panels and back door is old and weathered. Nice looking gold colored metal clock face. The black numbers and minute marks are inciside onto the face. Also, a beautiful applied gold colored pieces on all four corners of the clock face. The clock was distributed by J E Caldwell, a fine jewelry store that once operated in Philadelphia, PA. The black clock hands match and look appropriate to the clock. Good l00king brass movement in the case. Has the maker mark noted on the back brass plate of the movement. This clock has an 8 day movement. The pendulum that came with it looks appropriate to the clock and is quite heavy. The clock comes with a vintage wind key. The 2 springs feel sound when keyed. Check out the nice 2wire gong unit that does a bim bam strike every 15 minutes and then strikes the hours on the hour. The clock has been running and striking since we acquired it. Just cleaned and oiled the pivot points on the back plate of the movement. The clock stands 15.5″ tall (14.5″ w/ handle down), by 10-3/16″ across, by 7-3/16″ wide. The clock face is 5.25 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. If you have not had experience with old mechanical clocks before, I would suggest you steer clear. One really needs to have the patience, and skill to work with these great works of art. They are not our modern plug in and go, or change the battery clocks.
