Vintage Hampton Wood Case Chronometer Quartz Ships Clock with Swiss Made Movement
Vintage Hampton Wood Case Chronometer. Features a handsome solid wood case with brass lacquered corner protectors. No cracks, chips, or repairs to the wood case. Some very minor scuffs or finish loss to the case from age and use. Handles are also in place. The push button latch on the top part of the case is in place and operates. The lock for the lower section of the case is also in place but the key is not included. The lock is in the open position and assumed to be. The glass inside the case is clean with no fungus, cracking or blistering. The gimbal ring and the lock for the ring are in place. Case still retains the original green felt on the bottom of the case. The movement is powered by 1 “AA” battery but does not appear to be working even with a fresh battery. No attempt has been made to repair the movement and it’s possible a new one will be required. The movement has a white colored face with black numbering. The minute, hour and seconds hand are black and appropriate to the clock. The glass bezel is in place with no cracks or blistering. The chronometer case measures approx. 7″ tall, by 7″ across, by 7 wide. The clock face is 3.75 across.

Mahogany Wood Case Runs! Serial # 6403025, Produced in 1942. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself! There was no outer case that came with this model, only the inner case that holds the movement, which is how originally offered. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don’t have the overhead that the higher end houses and art galleries experience. Nice mahogany wood case. No cracks, hairlines, or repairs to the wood case. Some very minor finish loss to the case from age and use. The push button latch on the top part of the case is in place and operates. The lock is in place on the bottom of the case, no key comes with this offering. The bottom of the wood case has green felt on it. The glass inside the case is intact, no cracking or blistering. The gimbal ring and the lock for the ring are in place. Still has a fairly good brass lacquer finish on them. The movement has a silver colored face. The minute, hour and seconds hand are black and look appropriate to the clock. The wind strength meter hand is not in place. This is an 8 day movement, so if wound fully the clock would run for 8 days. A 17 jewel movement. We do not recommend that antique clock movements ever be wound tightly. There is no serial number on the gimbal ring or the case of the chronometer. Serial number is 6403025, which would date the piece to 1942. Also, has 21.29 noted on the back of the movement. The brass gimbal ring and the case for the movement show some tarnishing and finish loss as well. The chronometer case is 4-3/16″ tall, by 6″ across, by 6 wide. The clock face is 2-7/8 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions. There is no representation that the chronometer is in original condition, or will continue to be in working order. Elgin Mahogany Cased Gimballed Ship's Chronometer 21 Jewels Key for Case Lock
Beautiful Wood Case w/ Key for Cased Lock. Serial #15768032, Produced around WWI. Currently Not in Running Condition. Would make a great gift or keep for yourself! There is no outer case that came with this model, only the inner case that holds the movement, which is how being offered here. We can therefore better control our acquisition costs, keep commission costs low (if applicable), and finally, we don’t have the overhead that the higher end houses and art galleries experience. Nice mahogany wood case. No cracks, hairlines, or repairs to the wood case, with exception of a hairline that runs across the bottom of the case from side to side. Elgin name is noted on the front of the case. Some very minor finish loss to the case from age and use. The push button latch on the top part of the case is in place and operates. The lock is in place on the bottom of the case, and the key operates the lock. The push button on the top lid of the case is in place and operates. The glass inside the case is intact, no cracking or blistering. The gimbal ring and the lock for the ring are in place. Still has a fairly good brass lacquer finish on them. The movement has a white colored face. Has a number of tight hairline cracks running thru the face. The minute, hour and seconds hand are black and look appropriate to the clock. The wind strength meter hand is in place. This is an 8 day movement, so if wound, fully the clock would run for 8 days. A 21 jewel movement as noted on the back plate of the movemednt. We do not recommend that antique clock movements ever be wound tightly. There is no serial number on the gimbal ring or the case of the chronometer. Serial number on the movement is 15,768,032, which would date the piece to around WWI. The movement is tightly wound and the clock is currently not running. The wind knob is not pulling up to move the minute and hour hands for some reason as well. At this juncture, we cannot say why not running. Spring wound tight, not broken, escape wheel spring is in place. May just be the pivot spots have oil that has hardened over time from the piece not being used impeding running, or could be something else. The brass gimbal ring and the case for the movement show some tarnishing and finish loss as well. The chronometer case is 5-3/8″ tall, by 5-1/8″ across, by 5-1/8 wide. The clock face is 2-1/8 across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer, we are always open to reasonable suggestions. There is no representation that the chronometer is in original condition, or will continue to be in not working order.
